Main tasks and functions of the department:

• Strengthening the resource base of mining enterprises for extraction of minerals, increasing the reliability of explored mineral reserves, the most complete and comprehensive use of mineral deposits and protection of subsoil;
• Timely and high-quality geological support of the works in designing and reconstruction of mining enterprises for extraction of minerals, as well as in designing, construction and operation of underground structures not related to extraction of minerals and the use of subsoil for other purposes.
• Improving the organization and methods of conducting works on geological study of the subsoil on the basis of widespread introduction of the latest achievements of science, technology and best practices.
• Implementation of departmental control of compliance with the established procedure for the use of subsoil, the correctness of conducting the works on geological study of subsoil, compliance with the requirements for protection of subsoil, ensuring complete extraction from the subsoil of the main and other minerals occurring with them, including that during enrichment and processing of extracted mineral raw materials.
• Organization of highly efficient work of subordinated geological organizations.
