"Uzbekistan is a country, rich in mineral and natural resources, with a powerful economic and human potential."
Shavkat Mirziyoev
Uzbekistan is a country with very favourable natural and geographical conditions among Central Asian countries. Our country has great reserves of underground resources. Our country possesses reserves of natural gas, brown and stone coal, gold, copper, tungsten, bismuth, and open oil mining fields.
In particular, from ancient times the Almalyk region is considered as an area specialized in mining. Many ancient findings dating back to the IX-XII centuries BC, and traces of the ore mining activity are mentioned everywhere. This is an evidence that in ancient times there happened the rapid excavation of copper, lead, zinc, gold, silver, iron, amethyst, turquoise and other minerals in Almalyk. Almost all ore deposits processed by the Combine have been discovered on time in the footsteps of those ancient deposits.
The mining and metallurgical industries in our country are developing from year to year. Specifically, mining metallurgists representing more than 40 nationalities are working in the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex, the flagship of the Uzbek non-ferrous metallurgy, complex about uniting nearly 35 000 miners and metallurgists. JSC "Almalyk MMC" is one of the largest industrial enterprises of Uzbekistan, which has made a worthy contribution to the development of economic potential of our country during its 70-year history and its production capacity is based on copper-molybdenum, lead-zinc, gold and silver mining situated in Tashkent, Jizzakh, Namangan and Surkhandarya regions.
Almost all of the elements in the Mendeleev periodic table are found in the ore mined at these combine fields, specializing in the production and processing of rare, colourful and precious metals in the heart of our Motherland.
Today, the Almalyk Mining and Processing Plant for the extraction and processing of precious and non-ferrous metals is a complex industrial complex, including the Kalmakyr, Angren, Chadak, Khandiza mining administrations, as well as the Kauldy mine, six Concentrating plants, a Zinc plant, a Copper-smelting plant, a Central repair and mechanical plant, an Automobile transport department, Technological transport department, Administration for industrial railway transport.
The plant also includes such auxiliary units as the lime plant, Explosives material plant, Heat and power plant, Industrial water supply Department, Electrical networks department, Technical safety Systems service, Production Automation Department, "Olmalikmetallurgkurilish" Trust, Specialized repair works department, Design works department, Capital construction department, Consumer Goods Production Department, Department paramilitary security, Oil products supply administration, Technical control service, Central analytical laboratory, Central metrology laboratory, Center for the development and implementation of innovative technologies, Management of social facilities, Training center.
The gold and silver produced at the Complex have the "Good Delivery" quality mark of the London Precious Metals Market Association (LBMA). In the copper production process has been introduced quality management system and received an International Compliance Certificate. This certificate of conformity is also given to the Complex’s cement production process in Jizzakh.
An expert group, consisting of metallurgists, miners, and distinguished scholars in the field of precious metal extraction, has been established, and they have developed a program for the long-term modernization of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex. The program envisions the introduction of advanced foreign expertise into the production and processing of precious metals.
According to current estimates, more than 502 million dollars will be allocated for the implementation of this program. This will make it possible to increase production capacities, raising annual copper output from 109 thousand tons to 148 thousand tons, zinc production from 78 thousand tons to 120 thousand tons, and nearly doubling sulfuric acid production — from 618 thousand tons to 930 thousand tons.
The extraction and processing of precious and rare metals will increase by an average of 1.3 times compared to previous years.
Revenue from product sales will rise 1.5 times, reaching 12 trillion soums. Contributions to the state budget will also grow 1.4 times, exceeding 5 trillion soums. The net profit of the plant will likewise increase 1.4 times, amounting to 1.6 trillion soums.
In addition, the investment project for the development of the “Yoshlik I” deposit — designed for the extraction and processing of 160 million tons of ore annually — is being rapidly implemented. Within the framework of this megaproject, the 3rd Copper Enrichment Plant has been built. Furthermore, new production capacities are being established under the project, including a metallurgical complex, a machine-building plant, a lime plant, and an explosives plant.
The team of experts, including metallurgists, miners, and leading scientists in the field of precious metal mining, developed a program for the long-term modernization of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgy Complex. The program envisages introduction of advanced foreign experience in the production and processing of precious metals.
According to preliminary calculations, more than 502 million dollars will be oriented to implement this program. It will allow increase the production of copper from 109 thousand tons up to 148 thousand tons per year, production of zinc metal from 78 thousand tons up to 120 thousand tons, sulfuric acid production almost twice - from 845 thousand tons to 1.6 million tons.
Extraction and processing of precious and rare metals will increase 1.3 times compared to previous years.
Revenues from sales of products will increase by 1.5 times to 12 trillion UZS. The volume of revenues to the state budget will increase by 1.4 times and exceed 5 trillion UZS. The net profit of the Combine will also increase by 1.4 times and will make up 1.6 trillion UZS.
Seven prospective investment projects are currently underway on the development and mastering of new deposits, including "Yoshlik I" (23 million tons of copper-molybdenum) and "Yoshlik II" (2 million tons of copper-molybdenum).
The management of "Almalyk MMC" JSC will now work to ensure the implementation of measures in the social sphere, to work closely with the staff of the central staff, from the basic to the employees of the central office, to modernize production, to increase production capacity and export, as well as the support they provide.
The Complex is committed to the principles of transparency and accountability in the management of natural resources and formally reaffirms its support for the implementation of the principles and standards of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
