ISO 50001: Another Step toward Energy Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability

21 January 2026, 8:13 621

The implementation of the ISO 50001 international energy management system at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex has become an important step in improvement of production efficiency and reduction of its negative environmental impact, including reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

A seminar on the implementation and practical application of the energy management system was recently held at the Complex headquarters.

The key objectives of ISO 50001 are aimed at the rational use of energy resources, improvement of energy efficiency, reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, and ensuring that production complies with green economy principles.

As part of the external audit, key energy consumption areas were analyzed: baseline metrics were defined, energy efficiency indicators were developed, and the most energy-consuming processes were identified.

A series of measures to improve energy efficiency are being implemented in parallel. In particular, process equipment has been modernized, an energy consumption monitoring system has been implemented, and energy-saving operating modes have been introduced.

The implementation of the ISO 50001 system is already achieving concrete results – reduction of CO₂ emissions, lowering fuel consumption and reduction of the carbon load in electricity generation.

The seminar participants noted that energy efficiency measures are an integral part of the Complex overall environmental strategy.

The audit confirmed the active participation of staff and the consistent implementation of institutional changes. The Complex has established an energy management working group, organized employee training, and developed internal audit and continuous monitoring systems, which contribute to the development of a sustainable energy conservation culture.

The implementation of the energy management system provides the Complex with a number of strategic advantages: compliance with ESG requirements, progress toward carbon neutrality, increased investment attractiveness for international partners, and improved environmental performance.

The auditors also emphasized that the system has been implemented effectively and has potential for further development and improvement.

Thus, the implementation of ISO 50001 at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex confirms a systems approach to energy resource management and is a significant step towards environmental sustainability and the transition to a green economy.
