Artificial Intelligence Technologies are Being Widely Implemented at AMMC

03 February 2026, 9:3 644

Artificial intelligence (AI) is capable of analyzing and processing colossal amounts of data at a speed unmatched by human. This has made AI an indispensable tool in many fields, enabling rapid problem-solving, increasing productivity and process efficiency.

Today, AI systems are actively used in industrial production, scientific research, linguistics, art, medicine, education, the financial sector, and other fields.

In particular, the large industrial enterprise, Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex, established a Department for Introduction and Development of Artificial Intelligence to facilitate the widespread adoption of AI technologies.

As part of this work, the Complex has developed a Concept for Introduction and Development of Artificial Intelligence for 2026-2030. Its key goal is to transform the Complex into an intelligent enterprise through the application of AI at all stages of the production chain, ensuring global competitiveness, reducing production costs, and improving industrial safety.

At this stage, the key areas for introducing artificial intelligence have been identified: production processes (mining, enrichment, metallurgy, transportation), industrial safety and ecology (video analysis of personal protective equipment use, monitoring of tailings dumps and the environment), and corporate governance (digital assistants, procurement and inventory management, HR analytics).

The first stage, in this year, includes construction of a data processing center, creation of an artificial intelligence lab, formation of a dedicated team, and implementation of pilot projects with a rapid economic impact focused on crushing and flotation processes. Additionally, plans include the implementation of computer vision systems to improve industrial safety and reduce injuries, the launch of large-scale programs to improve digital literacy among personnel, and mechanisms for collecting rationalization proposals.

In the second stage (2027-2028), successfully tested pilot solutions will be implemented at all enrichment plants and throughout the entire copper smelter process chain. The implementation of a unified laboratory information system (LIMS) for the complete digitalization of chemical analysis data and its integration into machine learning models is planned, as well as the implementation of predictive diagnostic systems at key mining and process units.

The third stage (2029-2030) envisions the creation of an ecosystem including comprehensive autonomous systems, predictive management of all plant divisions, and full data integration.

The strategic goal of implementing the Concept is the transformation of the Complex production assets into an "Intelligent Production" ecosystem. This goal is achieved through the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in key stages of the production chain – from geological exploration and ore mining to beneficiation and the production of finished metallurgical products.

Thus, by 2030, Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex plans to reduce operating costs by at least 10-15% through the use of artificial intelligence systems, reduce the incidence of industrial injuries and accidents through video analysis and predictive diagnostics systems, increase the extraction of useful components at processing plants using AI consultants, and create its own infrastructure and corporate knowledge base.
