Cybercrimes are offenses and criminal acts committed using information technology, computer systems, networks or the Internet.

According to available data, the majority of cyber frauds in Uzbekistan are committed from abroad, which creates additional difficulties for law enforcement agencies in their investigation. One of the main reasons for the increase in the number of such crimes is considered to be the insufficient financial literacy of the population. The most effective way to prevent cybercrimes is preventive measures.

Preventive measures, regularly held among the plant's employees in order to prevent cybercrimes and improve their financial literacy, once again reminded everyone of the need to be vigilant.

From June 27 to June 30 of this year, such events were organized in the structural divisions of the plant - the industrial railway transport department, the zinc plant and the central repair and mechanical plant. They were attended by the Specialized Prosecutor of the town of Almalyk Rasul Matkhalikov and the officers of the Main Department of Internal Affairs at AMMC.

“Cybercrimes are usually committed by sending malicious links and programs in order to gain access to bank cards or control mobile devices. In addition, fraudsters fraudulently obtain SMS codes confirming access to bank cards and accounts in mobile applications, and also issue online loans in the name of the victim,” said Rasul Matkhalikov.

“Criminals also actively use fraud schemes through online trading platforms, drawing citizens into various financial traps.”

In addition, in recent years, various types of virtual gambling have been rapidly spreading among young people, which leads young people into a dead end. In pursuit of easy enrichment, young people lose large sums, take out online loans and continue to gamble. Finding themselves without a livelihood, some of them resort to crime.

"I will give a real-life example: last year, a terrible criminal act was committed in the Yangiyul district. A young man who lost money in a virtual casino broke into a private house with the purpose of stealing. When his family caught him at the scene of the crime, he committed murder, taking the lives of an entire family,” the prosecutor said.

Technological progress requires all of us to be more careful and aware.

According to statistics, over the past five years, the number of cybercrimes in the country has increased by 68 times, and over the past year alone – by 9.1 times compared to 2023. The total damage to citizens amounted to more than 1.9 trillion UZS. The share of cybercrimes in the structure of all crimes reached 44.4%.

During the event, the officials in charge particularly emphasized that timely prevention of such crimes, as well as raising public awareness of modern cyber threats and developing digital literacy, is more important than ever.
