In the momentous year of 2026, when our country celebrates the 35^th anniversary of the state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the team at Copper Processing Plant-2 is rightfully proud of its contribution to strengthening the country's economic potential and industrial might.

Looking back at the path traveled, we can say with confidence that every production achievement, every modernization project implemented and the stable growth of production indicators were the result of the dedicated work of the team and the opportunities that the independence of our country opened up.

Historical path and development during the years of independence

The enterprise was put into operation in 1954 as a lead-zinc concentration plant. Today it is one of the key links in the production chain of Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex. In August 2011, as part of improving the organizational structure of Complex, the enterprise was renamed to be Copper Processing Plant-2.

Over the 70 years of operation of the plant, 139.2 million tons of lead-zinc ore, 87.8 million tons of copper-molybdenum ore and 19.8 million tons of copper smelter slag were processed. During this period, 1 million 338 thousand tons of lead, 1 million 352 thousand tons of zinc and 444.1 thousand tons of copper as concentrates were supplied to the country's economy, which clearly confirms the strategic importance of the enterprise.

During the years of independence, the factory consistently expanded its raw material base. Thus, since 1998, the beneficiation of copper ores of the “Sary-Cheku” deposit has been mastered at all the process sites, and since 2004, the processing of slag from the copper smelter of Complex has been developed. The new stage of development began in 2024, when the enterprise began processing copper ore from the promising “Yoshlik I” deposit, which opened up new opportunities for further growth for the factory.

Results of the first half of 2026: the result of high production discipline

On the eve of the 35^th anniversary of Independence, the plant’s staff successfully achieved the production targets for January-June 2026.

During the reporting period, the fulfillment of the forecast for the receipt of raw materials amounted to 101.7%, for its processing – 100.7%. The highest results were achieved in copper production, where the forecast was fulfilled by 114.2%.

These indicators indicate strengthening the technological discipline, effective use of internal reserves and increased labor productivity. The modernization and automation programs implemented at the enterprise ensure not only stable production operation, but also allow us to confidently exceed planned forecasts.

Investing in the Future: New Processing Facility and New Jobs

Today, the plant is entering a new phase of development aimed at expanding production capacity.

Construction of a new processing facility with the capacity up to 5 million tons of ore per year is underway on the 3.1-hectare site of the plant. The project is focused on the efficient processing of ore from the “Yoshlik I” deposit and the extraction of valuable metals.

To date, drilling and blasting operations totaling 46,942 cubic meters have been completed, and approximately 100,442 cubic meters of earth have been moved as part of the construction site preparation. Construction and installation work is actively ongoing: reinforced concrete columns and foundations for the fine crushing building have been erected, and seven of the nine retaining walls specified in the project have been built. Site preparation for the grinding and flotation sections is also underway.

The project is particularly significant because it is being implemented entirely using the Complex internal resources, its own production potential, and the engineering expertise of its specialists. This is clear evidence of the achievements of domestic industry and our national workforce over the years of independence.

Completion of the first phase of construction is scheduled for late 2026 – early 2027. Once the complex is operational, additional 600 new jobs will be created.

The current achievements of MOF-2 and the large-scale projects being implemented here in the lead-up to the 35^th anniversary of Independence are a shining example of the successful implementation of our country's industrial strategy.
