+998 71 619 23 33On May 16 of this year, a delegation from the U.S. state of Utah arrived on an official visit to the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex.
The delegation included senators, representatives of the Utah Administration of Natural Resources, heads of mining associations and large companies, as well as officers of the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan. First of all, the guests visited the observation deck of the Kalmakyr mining Administrator, where they were provided with detailed information about the deposit and were shown the technological process of extraction and processing of raw materials.
The next site of the visit was the Yoshlik I mine, the construction of which began in 2017 on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan. The delegation became familiar with its resource potential and development prospects.
The guests were also presented with a project for the construction of Copper Concentrator Plant-3, equipped with modern process equipment, with a processing capacity of 60 million tons of ore per year.
During the visit, the delegation was accompanied by representatives of the FLS company, registered in Utah, which supplies process equipment for the new plant.
As part of the visit, the AMMC management and the American guests had a meeting. The parties discussed the potentialities of transferring techniques used in the Utah copper mines, cooperation in the extraction and processing of strategic metals, as well as involving foreign investment in joint projects.
In addition, the prospects for cooperation with EP Systems and Campbell Companies on the implementation of intelligent energy supply systems in quarries, as well as technical negotiations with FLS as part of the current projects and future areas of partnership were discussed.
Joel Ferry, Executive Director of the Utah Administration of Natural Resources, also expressed interest in educational cooperation, especially within the scope of exchange of students between the University of Utah (one of the leading universities in the United States) and Uzbek educational institutions.
The main purpose of the visit was to become familiar with the potential of the mining industry of Uzbekistan, explore opportunities for cooperation in the field of extraction and processing of strategically important metals, implement joint investment projects and introduce modern technologies. Attention is also being paid to strengthening regional ties between the Tashkent region and the state of Utah.

The main sectors of the economy are mining, energy, aerospace and defense industries, information technology, biotechnology and agriculture. The main natural resources are copper, molybdenum, gold, silver, uranium, coal and lithium. The largest copper deposit is the Bingham Canyon mine, which has been in operation since 1863 and is currently owned by the British holding company Rio Tinto.
