Vigilance is the demand of the times!

04 February 2025, 13:40 646

In pursuance of the requirements of the order of the Chairman of the Board of JSC “Almalyk MMC” on the prevention of emergency situations related to floods, mudflows, avalanches and landslides, as well as on the elimination of their consequences and the protection of the plant from natural, man-made and environmental threats, a number of measures were taken in its structural divisions and in assigned territories from 1 January 2024 to January 2025.

As part of these works, the banks of rivers and canals passing through the territories of the divisions were strengthened: for this, 18,292 cubic meters of stones and gravel were laid, and a reserve of 69,553 cubic meters of large stone debris was created in areas of possible floods.

To improve the throughput capacity of water bodies, river beds, canals and irrigation ditches were cleaned of silt, sand and gravel on a section of 14,493 m, and they were deepened on a section of 2,580 m.

Additionally, water pipes, water intakes and collectors were cleaned, from which 2,594 cubic meters of silt and sand were removed. 1,798 cubic meters of ballast were used to strengthen bridges.

To implement these measures, 472 workers were involved and 102 units of special machinery and equipment were used.

In 2024, no emergency situations related to floods, mudflows, avalanches and landslides were recorded on the territory of the plant.

In accordance with the order of the Chairman of the Board of JSC “Almalyk MMC”, the action plan was developed to prevent and eliminate the consequences of emergency situations. Its main goal is to minimize the risks of natural and man-made disasters on the territory of the plant. The key objectives of the plan include the implementation of emergency recovery and protective work necessary to ensure the safe passage of flood waters in the spring and summer.

Additionally, it provides for control over unacceptable types of economic activity, such as illegal extraction of non-metallic building materials and unauthorized construction in river beds and on hydraulic structures, since this can reduce the capacity of water bodies.

During the periods of intense precipitation, regular measurement of the water level in the rivers and streams assigned to AMMC is provided, as well as continuous monitoring of geological processes in high-risk areas jointly with the mine surveying and geological services of the plant.

The program of actions provides for continuous monitoring of the state of protective parameters of tailings storage facilities, sides (edges) of the drainage system, water levels in reservoirs and wells, natural watercourses, bridges, railways and roads, as well as potentially dangerous areas subject to landslides and mudflows. In addition, monitoring of treatment facilities, power lines and hydraulic structures located in areas of possible flooding is provided.

To ensure prompt response in case of emergency, constant readiness of structural divisions to carry out emergency rescue operations, protect workers and material assets, and minimize possible damage is provided.

It is also planned to create and maintain local warning systems in order to promptly warn of the risk or fact of an emergency.

In order to increase resilience to possible emergencies, it is planned to form reserves of material and financial resources, as well as conduct regular evacuation drills and preventive measures.

Effective and timely implementation of these measures will ensure stable operation of the plant.

Commander of the Civil Defense Squad of AMMC
