Drones Are Boosting the Efficiency of AMMC Surveyors

19 September 2025, 12:44 1235

In today’s rapidly evolving world, science and technology are advancing at an unprecedented pace and deeply transforming every sector of life. In the mining industry in particular, digital solutions are playing a vital role in improving production efficiency, enhancing measurement accuracy, and raising safety standards.

Surveyors at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex (AMMC) are actively embracing these innovations by integrating modern technologies into their daily operations. At the “Kalmakyr” and “Yoshlik I” mines, industrial drones are now being used to quickly and precisely measure terrain, create 3D models, develop drilling plans, and apply them directly to production processes.

For reference: drones equipped with LiDAR scanners emit millions of laser pulses per second, enabling highly accurate mapping of the earth’s surface—even through vegetation. As a result, detailed digital terrain models, volume calculations, and geodetic contours are produced. Compared to traditional surveying techniques, this method is faster, safer, and more reliable.

The captured aerial data is uploaded into Datamine software, where specialists process point clouds, generate surface meshes, create updated 3D models of the mines, and refine block geometries. For open-pit mine planning, the Studio OP software is used to design and optimize operations in real time, while the DataBlast module plays a key role in preparing drilling and blasting operations.

To ensure effective use of drone technology, nearly 20 surveyors from AMMC’s executive office and structural divisions completed specialized training courses at a dedicated educational center. Today, these certified experts are efficiently applying modern tools in production, carrying out surveying tasks with high accuracy and speed.

In conclusion, the use of drones represents a new approach in the mining industry, delivering greater efficiency and innovation. These technologies enable surveyors to collect large-scale data in a short time, organize production more effectively, and—most importantly—enhance workplace safety.
