According to available data, most cyber fraud cases in Uzbekistan are carried out from abroad, which causes difficulties for law enforcement agencies in exposing these crimes. One of the main reasons for the increase in such crimes in considered to be the lack of financial literacy among the population. The most effective way to prevent cybercrimes is through preventive measures.
Among the employees and workers of the Complex, awareness-raising and preventive activities are regularly conducted with the aim of preventive cybercrimes and increasing their financial literacy. These events once again call on everyone to remain vigilant.
On August 27 of this year, during the next preventive event held in the Zinc plant, the heads of the Tashkent regional Department of Internal Affairs – Lieutenant Colonel D. Abdurakhmonov, head of the first division of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Ministry of Internal Affairs “Almalyk MMC” JSC, and Major S.Rakhmatov – took part and provided explanations.
- Cybercrimes are mainly committed by sending harmful links and programs, through which criminals gain control over a bank card or a mobile device. They also gain access to accounts in various applications, obtain confirmation SMS codes through deception, and register online loans in someone else’s name, said D. Abdurakhmonov.
In addition, cybercriminals are defrauding citizens by using online trading platforms and various fraudulent schemes to lure people’s possession.
Furthermore, in recent years, various types of virtual gambling games have become increasingly popular among young people, dragging many of them into financial trouble. Dreaming of getting rich quickly, many young people take out loans and end up addicted to gambling. If may give you a life example, last year in Yangiyo’l district, a tragic incident occurred. When the causes were analyzed, it turned out that a young addicted to virtual gambling fell into depression and committed suicide. His actions took the lives of his family members as well, destroying an entire family.
During the event, officials emphasized that preventing such types of crimes in a timely manner, raising citizens’ awareness of modern cyber threats, and enhancing digital literacy are more important now than ever before.
During the activities, informational materials aimed at promoting awareness among employees were also distributed.
