In the global market, product quality is a key factor in competitiveness, consumer confidence, and growth in export deliveries.

High standards mean compliance with international requirements, strengthening of brand business reputation and stable long-term profits. At the same time, the slightest deviations from established parameters can lead to the product not being allowed into the foreign market or being returned to the supplier.

At the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex (AMMC), which today produces more than ten types of products and not only fully meets the country’s domestic needs but also actively exports products abroad, quality has been a key focus since the Complex foundation. For almost 70 years, this strategically important task is being implemented by the technical control service of the AMMC.

The Department units operate at copper concentrators No. 1, 2 and 3, at the central repair and mechanical plant, the Kauldy mine administration, at the zinc and copper smelters, and at the Angren, Khandizinsky and Chadaksky mine administrations. Their responsibilities include quality control of raw materials, accessories, and components, compliance with process conditions, sorting of intermediate products, testing and certification of finished products, and confirmation of their compliance with established requirements.

Today, we will take a closer look at the work of the QC Department unit operating at the copper smelter, which is the final link in the Complex production chain. Here, service specialists collect samples of flux ores, enriched concentrate, and recycled products - dust and cakes - delivered to the plant. The prepared samples are sent to laboratories for analysis of the metal content of raw materials and semi-finished products.

In addition, specialists continuously monitor all stages of the smelting process in metallurgical furnaces: they take samples of the charge loaded into the furnaces, as well as high-temperature slag melts at the outlet. All information is recorded with high accuracy, ensuring the accuracy of process calculations and strict compliance with established standards.

The service team controls the following divisions of the Copper-Smelting Plant: metallurgical shop, sulfuric acid shop, rare metals production shop, copper wire drawing and enameled copper wire production shop, copper electrolysis shop, gold and silver refining shop, and also in the copper sulfate shop.

To improve operational efficiency and ensure faster and more accurate analyses, the division was equipped with four-disc crushers in 2025.

The service team includes non-ferrous metallurgy inspectors, samplers, control foremen and engineers – specialists who conscientiously and professionally perform their assigned duties.

The Quality Control Department is a team whose work often remains behind the scenes, but it plays a key role in ensuring consistent quality.
