As part of the implementation of the strategy "Uzbekistan - 2030" and the State Program in the "Year of Environmental Protection and "Green" Economy", the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex  is actively working to introduce environmentally friendly solutions.

For the first time in Uzbekistan, Finnish experience is used in the technological process of cleaning acid and alkaline wastewater. In 2024, a tripartite agreement was concluded between the Agency for Innovative Development under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan, the Finnish company "EPSE OY" and AMMC on the implementation of a pilot project for the treatment of wastewater from the plant.

These days, the company "EPSE OY", specializing in the development of hydrometallurgical water purification technologies, has begun to implement a pilot installation at the plant. As an experiment, specialists from the company "EPSE OY" have already installed equipment at the treatment facilities of the Kochbulak mine of the Angren mine department and are currently conducting tests.

It is noteworthy that during the pilot period of the project, due to the addition of a special reagent, lime consumption is reduced by 60%. In addition, water is brought to the required quality level during the purification process. It also becomes possible to extract non-ferrous metals from the sediment formed during the purification process.

After completing the tests, Finnish specialists must prove the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of the project, as well as provide a conclusion on the possibility of using this technology on an industrial scale and bringing the efficiency of chemical treatment facilities to 99.5%. This conclusion is necessary for the treatment facilities of the Angren Mine Administration, as well as the zinc and copper smelters.

According to preliminary data, the implementation of this project will significantly reduce the harmful effects of industrial wastewater. In the future, it is planned to extend this experience to all industrial enterprises in Uzbekistan.
