Japan and AMMC: Collaboration for Green Technologies

23 February 2026, 9:53 351

A mutually beneficial partnership has been successfully developing between the Uzbek-Japanese Youth Innovation Center and Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex JSC for several years. Within the framework of this cooperation, a number of significant initiatives are being implemented aimed at strengthening of scientific and educational ties.

Thus, on the initiative of the center, together with the training center of the AMMC, an international meeting was organized at the engineering school on February 20 of this year.

As part of the visit, a scientific seminar was held for students of the engineering school with participation of the representative of the Uzbek-Japanese Youth Innovation Center, as well as professors from leading Japanese universities – Kyushu University Professor Yuichi Sugai, Professor Hajime Miki, and Waseda University Professor Keiko Sasako.

During the seminar, scientists presented reports on modern scientific research and promising areas of technological development. Representatives from the Land of the Rising Sun paid special attention to the results of the international SATREPS program, which is working to develop technologies for the production of “green” and “blue” hydrogen to achieve a carbon-neutral society.

During the talks, participants discussed prospects for introducing innovative solutions into the region’s industry, developing joint scientific research, and opportunities for strategic cooperation with leading Japanese technical universities. In addition, the Japanese scientific and educational delegation visited the Almalyk State Technical Institute, where they were introduced to the activities of the educational buildings of the Mining Electrical Engineering and Mining Departments.

Professors from Kyushu University and Waseda University presented information to students about their universities’ scientific potential, laboratory facilities, and master’s programs. Particular emphasis was placed on the prospects of academic mobility, the implementation of joint research and the training of highly qualified engineering personnel.

During the meeting, the Japanese side proposed to consider issues of integrating higher education institutions, including development of joint educational programs, organization of internships, and launching of a systematic exchange of students and faculty.

The Japanese delegation visit marked an important step in strengthening of international scientific cooperation and promoting modern environmental technologies in the mining and metallurgy industry.
