International standards in geology: a step towards professionalism

09 July 2025, 8:39 874

Recently, an important training seminar was organized for the students of the Mining program of the AMMC Engineering School, dedicated to modern international approaches to geological exploration and mineral resource assessment.

The event was attended by the leading geologist of the geological exploration party N. Azamov, mineralogist S. Masharipova, as well as young graduates of the Almalyk branch of the National University of Science and Technology "MISiS".

During the seminar, the participants familiarized themselves in detail with the basics and meaning of international standards in the field of reserve assessment. This is the widely used JORC code, as well as its analogues: NI 43-101 (Canada), CRIRSCO, SAMREC (South Africa) and others. The speakers discussed the key principles of these codes, including transparency, reliability, validity and significance of the information provided.

Particular attention was paid to the JORC criteria, which were clearly explained through practical examples. The participants of the seminar were shown methods of preparing geological data in accordance with international requirements, ways of analyzing them and presenting them in an open form for investors and stakeholders.

I. Rakhmatillaev, Senior Lecturer at Tashkent State Technical University, noted: “Reliability and accuracy of geological data play a key role in the proper organization of mining operations. Estimation of reserves, structure and composition of minerals are initially determined by geology. Therefore, future mining engineers must not only master modern mining technologies, but also perfectly understand international standards of geological exploration.”

The seminar also became a platform for active knowledge sharing: young specialists shared their practical experience, answered questions and had a lively discussion with the participants. This event allowed not only to consolidate theoretical knowledge, but also significantly expand the professional skills of the students.

The seminar was an important step in introducing international experience and advanced knowledge in the field of geology and mining into the educational process of the engineering school.
