Green Initiative is a Common Cause

02 July 2025, 9:12 894

Climate change is one of the most serious environmental problems on the planet. It makes countries around the world think about the future of our Earth. According to research, since 1970 the number of wild animals and birds has decreased by more than 3.4 thousand species, and the wildlife index has fallen by 52%. About 11 million hectares of tropical forests are cut down annually – this is 10 times higher than the rate of restoration of the flora. Almost 60 million tons of carbon dioxide are emitted into the atmosphere every day, which leads to a rise in sea levels.

To combat such alarming trends, a nationwide project "Green Region" is being implemented in Uzbekistan, and Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex (AMMC) is actively participating in this good initiative. In particular, along the roads from the central streets of Almalyk to industrial zones, labor collectives of the plant's divisions planted seedlings of ornamental trees and flowers. In addition, special containers were installed and a drip irrigation system was introduced.

Also, a landscaped park is currently being created on the territory between copper processing plants No. 2 and No. 3. As part of the Green Edge project, employees of Olmalikmetallurgkurilish trust are engaged in landscaping and building access roads to the park. This improves not only the working conditions of the plant's employees, but also creates comfort for local residents.

The site, which was previously a wasteland without a single tree, is now turning into a green corner thanks to the efforts of the workers. About 2,000 seedlings of fruit and ornamental trees have already been planted. In the future, there will be children's swings, sculptures of fairy-tale characters and recreation areas. The opening of the park is planned for September of this year.

By participating in the Green Edge project, we care not only about nature, but also about our own health, and most importantly, about the health of future generations. Speaking about the environmental initiatives of the plant, one cannot fail to mention the green boulevard created by the workers of MOF-2. According to Saidazim Kuvandikov, Deputy Director of the Moscow Forum for General Affairs, the green zone is 1,050 meters long and 30 meters wide. Various fruit trees, ornamental trees, and flowers are planted here. The immediate plans include planting grape vines along the paths and installing trellises for them.

Scientists warn that in the next 25-30 years, the planet's climate will become even warmer and weather conditions more extreme. And every branch planted today is a small step toward a clean and sustainable future. If each of us feels personal responsibility for environmental protection and becomes part of this national project, the world around us will truly become greener.
