AMMC is actively involved in the nationwide "Green land" project

27 May 2025, 14:35 1030

As you know, the nationwide project “Green Space”, which has been implemented since 2021 at the initiative of the head of our state, is recognized as one of the important initiatives aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability, reducing air pollution and positively affecting the quality of life of the population. Within the framework of this project, practical work is also being carried out systematically and purposefully by JSC “Almalyk MMC”.

In particular, a total of 296 hectares of land were prepared for planting seedlings within the framework of the project.

In autumn of 2023 and spring of 2024, 1 million 536 thousand seedlings of various ornamental and fruit trees, as well as 2 million poplar cuttings, were planted.

By autumn of 2024 and spring of 2025, another 398 thousand 521 tree seedlings and 2 million 199 thousand 320 poplar cuttings were planted.

In general, to date, 1 million 934 thousand 521 tree seedlings have been planted, of which 998 thousand 70 were placed in the form of a “Green Belt” around objects with a medium and high level of environmental impact.

The work within the framework of the “Green Space” program has also been covered at objects located throughout the republic within the complex.

In particular, a total of 1,771,297 tree seedlings have been planted in the Tashkent region. 1,631,317 trees were planted in the town of Almalyk (of which 781 thousand for the “Green Belt”), 18,200 in the town of Chirchik, and 137,540 in the town of Angren (all for the “Green Belt”).

In addition, 55,630 trees were planted in Pop district of Namangan region (for the "Green Belt"), 5,000 in Forish district of Jizzakh region, 21,000 in the Ingichka mine area of Samarkand region, and 69,300 in Sariosiyo district of Surkhandarya region (for the "Green Belt").

These indicators clearly demonstrate that the activities of JSC “Almalyk MMC”are distinguished not only by their industrial potential, but also by their responsible approach to ecology.

These initiatives are becoming increasingly important not only as a means of greening territories, but also as an effective tool in combating climate change. The "green belts" being built around cities and industrial areas act as natural filters and contribute to ensuring clean air.

The management of JSC “Almalyk MMC”is taking a responsible approach to each planted seedling. All trees are cared for at the required level and their growth process is regularly monitored. In particular, drip irrigation systems are being effectively implemented for watering planted seedlings and flowers.

To date, 342,600 meters of drip irrigation systems have been installed. This makes it possible to save water resources, which are considered invaluable today.

The work carried out within the framework of the “Green Space” project is not only of ecological importance, but also strengthens the idea of valuing the green environment in the minds of society, preserving it and passing it on to future generations.

JSC “Almalyk MMC”will continue to make its worthy contribution to these grand processes.

For improvement of the ecological situation in our country and reducing the harmful effects of dust and sand storms, a number of comprehensive measures are being implemented. In this process, the joint action of state organizations, industrial enterprises and the population is the main factor in achieving ecological sustainability.

The national project "Green Space" and its practical results

In order to increase the level of greenery in the republic and create a healthy living environment for the population, the national project "Green Space" is being consistently implemented. The project was launched in 2021, and millions of seedlings are planted every year. The goal is to increase the green areas in the country to at least 30% by 2030.

Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC) is also actively participating in this movement. In the autumn of 2024 and spring of 2025, the structural divisions of the combine will:

  • 392,521 poplar seedlings;
  • 2,162,320 pieces of poplar cuttings were planted.

These saplings are placed along roadsides, industrial zones, recreational areas, and residential areas within the city, playing a major role in purifying the air and improving the microclimate.

Environmental benefit calculations

  • 1 poplar tree absorbs an average of 20–25 kg of CO from the atmosphere per year. This means that planted poplars reduce approximately 8,000 tons of CO annually.
  • One hectare of poplar grove removes about 30–35 tons of dust and harmful particles from the air per year.
  • Arbors can reduce air temperatures by an average of 2–3°C, which significantly reduces heat stress in summer.

International experience

  • China – has planted over 66 billion trees since 1978 through the Great Green Wall project, reducing dust storms by 20%.
  • Kazakhstan – has reduced soil erosion by planting saxaul and poplar plantations to stabilize sandy soils in the Aral Sea region.
  • The European Union – is implementing the Green Cities program within cities, developing green infrastructure aimed at improving public health and climate sustainability.

Responsibility and continuity

As the head of our state emphasized, "Green Space" is not a one-year campaign, but a long-term national movement. This is a strategy that will ensure that future generations live in a decent ecological environment.

Each of us can participate in this process by:

  • Conservation of land and water resources;
  • Avoidance of harming the environment;
  • planting trees and contributing to the preservation of existing green areas.
