Transformation process at AMMC

07 May 2025, 17:21 2032

Today, the Agency for Information and Mass Communications under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a press conference on the topic "Transformation process at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex " with the participation of representatives of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex .

The event was attended by the Acting Director of the Digitalization Department Aziz Rozikulov, the Head of the Sustainable Development Department of the Project Office for "ESG", International Ratings and Transformation Rustam Akhmedov, the Head of the Transformation Department Khurshid Turdiev, as well as representatives of the media.

The press conference provided full information on the progress of transformation processes at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex . In particular, the topic was the transition to international financial reporting standards, increasing operational efficiency, improving the corporate governance system, developing ESG areas and introducing digital technologies.

To ensure sustainability and competitiveness in the long term, the plant has created a project office for transformation, "ESG" and international ratings. The office is responsible for the implementation of international best practices — from transparent reporting to strategic planning.

Since 2019, AMMC has been maintaining financial statements in accordance with international standards recognized in the global business environment. The implementation of these standards was carried out with the support of the audit companies Ernst & Young and Deloitte. This allowed the enterprise to receive international credit ratings from S&P agencies ("B+") and Fitch ("BB-", stable outlook), as well as attract direct financing from international banks without intermediaries. As a result, the plant attracted $2.3 billion in credit funds and saved $125 million on financial expenses.

In addition, AMMC received a third-level ESG rating from the Sustainable Fitch agency with an assessment of 56 points – this is the best indicator among industry enterprises in Uzbekistan.

The enterprise pays special attention to issues of anti-corruption policy and procurement transparency. The audit conducted by KPMG helped identify ways to improve efficiency. PwC Central Asia and Caucasus assessed the entire production chain, from the mine to the metallurgical plant, and contributed to the development of a roadmap for production optimization. Ernst & Young provided advice on compliance and financial sustainability.

Currently, AMMC is undergoing international certification by The Copper Mark as a "responsible copper producer". This will increase the competitiveness of products on the European market and open up opportunities for attracting environmentally oriented investments.

Also, during the event, information was presented on the work carried out at the plant as part of digitalization.

For example, accounting and financial reporting are now generated automatically through the 1C:ERP system, which has almost halved the time it takes to prepare documents. Accounting for warehouses, fuel, and weighing have also been automated. For example, digital scales with an accuracy of 99.8% have been installed at the enrichment plant. In addition, 34 tanks with a total volume of 4.5 thousand cubic meters, 15 filling stations, and 26 fuel trucks have been introduced as part of the automated fuel and lubricants management system. As a result, the fuel and lubricants supply process has been transferred to online mode: drivers can refuel without an operator using an ID card, which helps to avoid corruption, reduce service time by three times, and save 6.4 thousand tons of diesel fuel — about 89 billion UZS.

Today, the plant also effectively uses artificial intelligence technologies. At the Kalmakyr and Yoshlik I quarries, functions for monitoring the size of ore, wear of excavator bucket teeth and the condition of drivers (fatigue, attention, etc.) have been implemented as part of the mining and transport equipment management system. A pilot project for video surveillance with machine vision is also being launched at the processing plant, which will stabilize metal extraction and optimize reagent consumption by 2%.

In short, digitalization brings the plant about 9.1 billion UZS of economic effect per year, – noted Aziz Rozikulov, Acting Director of the Digitalization Department of AMMC.

The participants of the event received detailed answers to all their questions.
