Another facility launched in anticipation of the Mining and Metal Workers Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex was a new tailing pond No. 2 of the gold concentration plant of Angren mine administration.

On May 12 this year, a grand opening event was held at the facility, which was attended by the management of AMMC, Heroes of Uzbekistan Jonsaid Turdiev, Saydali Rakhmanov, as well as employees of the plant.

Opening the event, Abdulla Khursanov, Chairman of the Board of “Almalyk MMC” JSC, in his speech focused on the achievements of the plant and congratulated everyone with the upcoming professional holiday.

There was also an awarding of commemorative gifts to a group of employees who participated in the construction of the facility.

During the event, a symbolic ribbon was cut and the facility was commissioned.

Angren mine administration is one of the largest subdivisions of “Almalyk MMC” JSC. The company specializes mainly in the extraction of gold ore. 

A number of large investment projects, such as the construction of the new Samarchuk mine and the construction of a new tailing pond, have been implemented in Angren ore management in recent years.

Construction of the new tailing pond No. 2 of Angren gold concentration plant is intended for storage of tailing deposits, which is implemented in order to maintain the production capacity in accordance with the forecast plans. Construction on the new facility began in May 2019. The Design Department of “Almalyk MMC” JSC developed design documents, according to which the construction work of this facility was carried out.

The “Olmalikmetullurgkurilish” trust division and the “SUNLIGHT DREAM” LLC contractor were involved in the work. “Olmalikmetullurgkurilish” trust performed general construction work, installation of process pipelines, “SUNLIGHT-DREAM” LLC - excavation work, laying the geomembrane.

A total of 106.4 billion UZ Soums were spent on the construction of the new facility.

In accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated March 10, 2020 “On the program of localization of consumer goods in the domestic and foreign markets”, 90% of all installed equipment and materials are of local production. 

The crest length of the dam is 1285 m, crest width is 12.25 m, the maximum height is 30.5 m.

The top elevation of the dam is 1003.5 m. In the body of the dam 1 418 166 cubic meters of coarse clastic rubble soil with water soaking was laid layer-by-layer h-30cm with tamping.

The total volume of the dam bowl is 2,337,207 m3 which means that the capacity of the projected tailing pond corresponds to the capacity of the enterprise for 5 years. In the future, work is planned to increase the capacity of the tailing pond.
