The role of digitalization in the field of geology is incredible

The management of "Almalyk MMC" JSC is paying special attention to increasing production indicators, re-equipping and modernizing technical and technological equipment, building new production facilities, and increasing the level of digitalization.

As part of the transformation of JSC "Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex" by the order of January 26, 2022, the complex approved a work plan consisting of 27 measures (for 234 billion soums) aimed at increasing the level of automation of business processes and technological processes of the complex and more than 30 additional projects are being implemented.

In particular, the "Digital Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex-2030" concept was approved for the implementation of the above tasks and tasks. This concept includes strategic goals for digitalization of complexd production and business processes. Also, the main directions of increasing the efficiency of the mining and metallurgical network using modern information and communication technologies are defined in the concept.

Today, in order to modernize and digitize the field of mining geology, to increase the scope and efficiency of geological exploration, software is being used, taking into account the experiences of international experts. This will speed up the implementation of strategic goals for the digitization of production and business processes at the complex, and will also make the work in the mining industry several times more efficient. 

By implementing the mine-geological information system, it is possible to increase the production capacity and efficiency of the Almalyk mining-metallurgical complex. 

On the basis of the above documents, the "Concept for the development of mining and geological information systems" was developed at "Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex" JSC. This concept was created taking into account the opinions of international experts in the field, including specialists of the "SRK Consulting" company.

The experience of major international mining companies BHP, Vale, Rio Tinto and CIS companies such as Polyus Zoloto, Polimetall, Kaz Minerals, Nordgold, ERG was studied in the development of the "Mining and geological information system concept".

This project envisages the implementation of the mine-geological information system in the structural units under the jurisdiction of " Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex " JSC.

Datamine Studio NPVS software is currently being used for strategic planning of open pit mining operations.

Through the program, the geologists of the complex carry out a number of important processes, such as strategic planning and optimization of open-pit mining, clarification of the boundary contour of the quarry taking into account economic and technological parameters, as well as effective implementation of work in the designated areas.

In accordance with the international requirements of the JORC code, it is aimed to increase the investment attractiveness of the complex, to introduce modern methods of corporate management in accordance with the requirements of world practice, and to achieve an increase in the competitiveness of the product.

Of course, by implementing this system, it is planned that many more tasks will be performed in front of the employees of the complexd geological service. According to it, long-term, medium-term and short-term strategic planning of mining operations, determination of the optimal mode of mining operations taking into account the dynamics of quality indicators is required. In the implementation of these works, conditional modeling using 3D block models is intended to increase the accuracy of the location and distribution of qualitative and quantitative parameters.

As a result of the step-by-step implementation of these works, an integrated information system is being formed for the management of mineral resources with a single database and the geological provision of production.

The main tasks (complex) of the software provide optimization in the specified contours, optimal selection of the direction of mining operations.

Also, a single digital database of the mine was created for surveyors, miners and geologists, and the accuracy of reserve accounting was increased based on the international JORC code.

Within the framework of this concept, the Geolims program was developed in cooperation with the initiative of the geological department of the complex and the employees of the Department of Automation of Production.

The Geolims program is considered the only program in the complex in terms of its structure, which allows you to carry out all geological work at Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex, save the results, digitize the transformation work, and accelerate the exchange of data between departments.  

Creating the Geolims program is divided into 3 stages.

In the 1st stage, a unified geological data storage base was created together with the leading program engineer Saidullo Khamitjonov, an employee of Production and Practice Department and experts in the field of geology.

In the 2nd stage, together with Production and Practice Department employee Jahangir Mahamadjonov, 1st category program engineer, and experts in the field of geology, a rapid database of sample preparation, laboratory and mining sites was created.

In the 3rd stage, it is planned to carry out geological analysis of data together with Production and Practice Department employees and experts in the field of geology.

Currently, all geological information is being brought to electronic form in the field of geology. For this reason, Geolims software is being created and improved in cooperation with the Production and Practice Department at the suggestion of the geological department for the geologists of the complexd company to regularly use the available geological information on their site.

An important part of Geolims software is that it can be used with the help of tablets and mobile devices through the complexd network (set) and the Internet. Drilling is currently underway in the mines of our complex. The core samples taken during the drilling process are being documented according to the JORC code in accordance with the world standard. These geological documents are loaded into Geolims software in 13 formats.

From the uploaded geological data, you can enter the software and use the parts you need by entering the login password through the link from the data related to each geologist's section.

In a word, the application of digitization to the field of geology is causing high efficiency.

What has been done so far is one of the first steps towards digitizing the field of geology, and there are big plans ahead.
