Fighting corruption is a national task

06 March 2025, 14:15 1047

Response

“Fighting corruption is a national task, a matter of conscience for every patriot of their country. No one should stand aside in this process.”

Shavkat Mirziyoyev,

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan

On March 5, 2025, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a meeting of the National Anti-Corruption Council. The event assessed the measures taken to create a transparent and fair system in the country, and identified further tasks.

- If we all join forces, we will definitely achieve significant positive results. That is why mahalla activists, the older generation, the intellectuals, writers and poets, art and culture workers, entrepreneurs, famous figures, leaders, deputies and senators - the entire public must become a single whole and view corruption as an “ulcer on the body of society.”

For the first time in the country’s history, a meeting at such a high level, and in a critical format, was chaired by the head of state himself. This confirmed his firm and irreversible political will in the fight against corruption. During the meeting, the president presented 55 specific initiatives aimed at eradicating this evil.

As part of these initiatives:

5 new laws and 12 decrees and regulations will be developed;

The role of Parliament, National and Regional Councils, as well as civil society institutions in the fight against corruption will be significantly strengthened;

New mechanisms for declaring the income of civil servants and limiting illegal enrichment will be introduced;

The powers of the Anti-Corruption Agency and internal control systems of state organizations will be expanded.

The personal and political responsibility of heads of ministries, departments and state institutions for eradicating everyday corruption will also be increased.

A system for assessing the quality of public services by the population will be introduced, and strict measures will be taken against heads of areas with the lowest performance indicators.

The independence of internal control systems for combating corruption will be increased, and their powers will be expanded.

In addition, effective legal mechanisms aimed at preventing corruption and ensuring transparency of all processes will be introduced in large investment projects and auctions.

In the area of public procurement, strict restrictions on direct purchases will be introduced, which will significantly save budget funds and prevent their misuse.

In addition, the prosecutor’s office, internal affairs and tax authorities will focus on combating crime, which will increase stability in society and the level of citizen satisfaction.

Prosecutor’s powers in monitoring illegal inspections will be strengthened, which will improve the business climate and investment attractiveness of the country.

It is expected that the implementation of these measures will have a positive impact on international ratings, strengthen citizens’ trust in government reforms and create a solid foundation for holding the UNCAC conference in Uzbekistan in 2027.

The most important thing is to form a legal culture and awareness of personal responsibility for the fight against corruption in society, especially among young people.

Based on the decisions taken at this meeting, we also undertake obligations to implement a number of anti-corruption initiatives at JSC Almalyk MMC.

Shukhrat Djuraev,

Interim Head of the Compliance Service
