The university of geological sciences hosted the conference “Lithium day in Uzbekistan”

On March 12, 2024, in Tashkent, the “Lithium day Uzbekistan 2024” conference was held at the University of Geological Sciences.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Mining and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan in collaboration with the German Institute Deutsches Lithiuminstitut and GP Papenburg AG.

The event was attended by representatives of the World Lithium Market, industry experts from Germany, Great Britain, Finland, as well as representatives of JSC “Almalyk MMC”, JSC “Navoi MMC”, State Enterprise “Navoiyuran”, University of Geological Sciences, “Yangi Kon” LLC, “Uzgeorangmetliti” LLC, foreign consulting companies and other organizations.

The First Deputy Minister of Mining and Geology Omonullo Nasritdinkhodjaev welcomed the conference participants – the representatives of the international lithium market, the foreign companies, in particular the German Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Dr. Thilo Klinner, and the head of GP Günter Papenburg AG, Mrs. Angela Papenburg.

The main goal of the conference is to study the global trends in the field of essential minerals, technologies for their processing, as well as foreign experience in creating a value chain from semi-finished products and establishing cooperation with competent engineering companies in the implementation of projects.

During the first panel session, presentations were made on the topics: “Development of important minerals in Uzbekistan”, “Projects for the extraction of lithium and important minerals in Uzbekistan”, “Geology and assessment of mineral resources in the framework of international lithium projects”, etc.

In the second session, international lithium ore processing companies such as Metso, FLSmidth KBR, Gea Engineering demonstrated their technological solutions and experience in processing critical metals.

In addition, during the event, specialists from research institutes and organizations of the republic conducting research in this area demonstrated their developments, as well as scientific achievements.

Deputy Chief Engineer of Almalyk MMC for Technology Abdukakhkhar Sainazarov gave a presentation on the topic “Increasing the production of rare metals at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex.”

Thus, this conference provides a platform for dialogue and exchange of experience, covering important topics for the mining industry and geology.
