O. Nasritdinhodjaev, First Deputy Minister of Mines and Geology of Uzbekistan, opened the event and presented a presentation on “Sustainable development of industry in the mining sector”.

During the event organized by the Ministry of Mining and Geology of Uzbekistan, representatives of Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex made presentations on “Change Management at JSC “Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex” - on the way to transformation”, “Importance of “ESG” (sustainable development) and climate”, “Work done at AMMC in the field of sustainable development”.

In particular, Feruza Khamidova, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “Almalyk MMC” on Economics, Finance and Transformation, made a presentation on “Change Management at AMMC - on the way to transformation”, during which she familiarized the participants of the event with the works carried out at the plant within the framework of transformation.

During the event, the participants analyzed the work on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of AMMC and ways to reduce them, on environmental protection at the facilities under construction, as well as the benefits of “ESG” in the mining industry, ways to achieve sustainability in all its aspects and the relevance of climate change issues. Opinions and comments on the works performed within the framework of AMMC’s sustainable development were also voiced.

“ESG” reports on sustainable development are important first of all because they ensure transparency of information about the works implemented by the company in the social sphere and for environmental protection for stakeholders, i.e. investors, business partners and the general public. Making these reports publicly available will further increase the investment attractiveness of the Complex. At the same time, the concept of sustainable development implies an increase in the welfare of the population,” said F. Khamidova.

Significant work has been carried out in the system at the mining and metallurgical enterprises of the Ministry of Mines and Geology. In particular, a Sustainable Development Report (“SDR”) based on the Global Reporting Initiative standards was developed, ISO certification was obtained, and new renewable energy and water-saving technologies were introduced.

The presentation was also attended by representatives of sectoral ministries of the country, as well as such enterprises as JSC “Navoiy MMC”, SE “Navoiyuran”, JSC “Uzbek Metallurgical Complex”, JSC “Uzbekugol”, JSC “Shargunugol”, JSC “Uzbekgeologichesky poisk”, JSC "Uzbekgeofizika”, State Company “Uzbekgeofizika”, and State Company “Center for Subsoil Use”.
