Digitalization at AMMC: high cost efficiency

13 June 2024, 10:31 947

As part of the digital transformation, a significant amount of work is being carried out at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex.

In particular, within 5 months of 2024 for the purpose of Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated May 24, 2023 No. PP-162 “On measures to expand the coverage and improve the quality of digital services, as well as the digital transformation of sectors, industries and regions” of 4 activities 2 have been implemented, - 2 are under implementation.

Work on the development of information security documentation in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 27000, has been completed, where 29 documentshave been developed.

Software, as part of the system for controlling and monitoring privileged users (Privileged Access Management) was launched that enables to audit the actions of administrators engaged in the information systems and resources of AMMC as well as secures against unauthorized access.

An automated system for operational planning of underground mining operationsis being introduced. Software licenses have been installed and activities for creation of operational models and integration with the laboratory information system are underway. This will enable for long-, medium- and short-term planning of mining operations at the Angren Mining Department, as well as for reporting on ore production volumes and the dynamics of the use of mining equipment. Owing to this, it is expected to reduce operating expenses by 2 percent and increase productivity by 5 percent.

A laboratory data management system has also been introduced, where the option to register all test samples and electronically generate records of analysis results between Kalmakyr Mining Department and the central analytical laboratory has been created. Using this system, it has been possible to reduce the time for processing laboratory results and more than 20 hard copy reports have been converted into soft copy version. Currently, activities for replication of this system in other mining departments (Angren, Khandiza, Chadak) are underway.

In 2024, 35 activities are planned to be implemented. Within the first 5 months of this year, 15 activities had been successfully completed.

Of these: The information system “Electronic Journals” has been launched at the Copper concentrating plant, Copper-smelting plant, Central mechanical repair plant, PVZ and Process automation department. This enabled to introduce electronic logging of work assignments, I and II stages of control, registration of briefings. his system will enable to reduce the time spent on organizational issues by 3 times, and get rid of paper logbooks.

At MOF-2 4 laser sensors had been installed to monitor the
ore level in the bins. The option to monitor the trolleys in a real-time mode has been created, ensuring a uniform supply of ore to the mill hoppers. A A mnemonic diagram (SCADA) of the planthad also been created, which enabled to control and monitor the process flow in accordance with the established regulations.

As part of the data transmission network modernization14 km of communication cables had been laid in the Executive office, and 12 control switches were installed and configured. Owning to these activities, data exchange speed increased by 10 times and ensured the security of the network.

As part of the national project “Green Region”, am information system for recording and control of treeshas been developed. This system enables to maintain statistics and analyze data on planted trees, which contributes to more efficient management of landscaping in the area.

As part of the automated information system for accounting, financial reporting and data consolidation, the stability of the 1С:ERP (Performance) was improved, which increase work performance by 3 times. The interface and functionalities of the system have also been updated.

As part of the project for Mining and Conveyor System Automated Control System, activities for expansion of server capacity and installation and commissioning of 8 server equipment had been carried out, and the data storage system was increased by 290 TB.

The “Risk Management” information system was developed and put into commercial operation. As part of this system, a list of all risks attributable to AMMC was compiled and entered into the database. After conducting a risk analysis, it was possible to formulate measures to reduce and manage them.

To monitor the implementation of instructions of the Resolutions and Decrees of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the “Instruction follow-up” systemhad been developed. This system allowed the deputy chairmen of the board to monitor instructions and adherence to deadlines for completing assignments.

A report on the “Operations daily summary of production indicators”was created in the interactive dashboards information system (BI). With the help of which the chief specialists of the complex stopped printing reports in hard copy.

As part of the project on establishment of an Engineering school 100 computers and office equipment17 interactive whiteboards and projection devices, as well as 8 stands in the field of automation had been installed. Curricula and manuals for training specialists in the field of automation have been developed.

By the end of 2024, it is planned to complete 21 activities.

In particular, a process flow database (PI System) will be launched at Copper concentrating plant, Copper concentrating plant-2 and Copper-smelting plant to consolidate and visualize process flow data. This will the time required to make management decisions through online monitoring and analysis of devices based on 30 thousand signals.

As part of the Ore-Water project, 15 automation control and measuring cabinets had been assembled at the Copper-smelting plant. Owning to the launch of the system, savings of 1.8 mln. m3 of water per year are expected.

Completion of installation and commissioning of control and measuring devices of the automation system of the Gold extraction plant under the Angren Mining Department will allow achieving the optimal mode of the process flow and increasing the operating efficiency of the equipment.

As part of the modernization of the upper-level equipment of the process control system4 control  cabinets250 instrumentation devices and controllers (Siemens)will be launched at the Khandiza concentrating plant. Specialists of the process automation department will develop software.

The Corporate Network Access Control System (NAC) will be launched to provide centralized control over more than 5,000 users and devices.

Through the implementation of the “Unified Centralized Control Station” in the Executive Office, the option to monitor and analyze the management of business and process flows of 15 15 structural divisions will be created.

As part of the project for Mining and Conveyor System Automated Control System at the Kalmakyr and Yoshlik I quarries, activities for the 1st and 2nd stages of start-up facilities have been completed. Installation work on 99 dump trucks29 excavators16 drilling rigs and 192 auxiliary equipmenthas been completed. Software that enables collecting and processing the information in a real time mode has been launched. Owning to the completion of the work, it is expected to increase the volume of transportation by 10 percent, reduce operating transport expenses and optimize the mining process flows.
